Leslie Snyder PhD
Meet Dr. Snyder
When parents reach out to me, it is often because they are at the end of their rope. They have consulted with various mental health professionals and educators, as well as other parents. However, most or all of the recommended strategies have led to further frustration and sadness. So they turn to me with three hopes and dreams that seem to be universal:
1) I want my child to be happy.
2) I want my child to get a good education and go to college.
3) I want my child to grow into a responsible adult who can manage the ups and downs of life.
My approach is different because I have a unique combination of qualifications – I am a respected mental health professional, a prominent educator and a loving parent. As a result, when I evaluate a situation, I am able to diagnose and manage it from multiple perspectives.
1) Psychological & Behavioral Issues: I am a licensed clinical psychologist. I specialize in treating the emotional challenges of children and adolescents, as well as their families.
2) Educational Services: I am an educational and neuropsychological assessor, as well as an educational therapist and educator. This enables me to effectively diagnose and manage academic difficulties. Specifically, the Snyder Relational Learning Method has helped hundreds of students to thrive in school, including achieving outstanding standardized test scores and going on to top colleges.
3) I am also a parent who understands that when you trust someone with the care of your child, at a minimum, you want them to be competent, compassionate and caring. These are three traits that I offer and apply to every situation. Thus, I always welcome your questions and will do my best to address your concerns.
Gratefully, I have had these experiences which have allowed me to assess whether a young person’s needs are primarily psychological and behavioral, or educational, or a combination. I then create and implement a treatment protocol that is unique to their needs. In particular, I often find that assisting a young person in one area often translates into a marked improvement in other areas. Therefore, by evaluating the young person as a whole, I have been extremely successful at creating strategies for children and adolescents to succeed academically, socially and behaviorally – enabling them to reach and surpass goals that once seemed unattainable.
