LD Services

For all students who receive specialized services on standardized tests:  Whether the student is provided with extra time to complete the test, a reader to assist with the test and / or a private room to take the test – I have expertise in assisting students to utilize their accommodation.  In particular, my techniques ensure that the accommodation will be an asset and not a liability.

For students with attention issues:  I employ my “Analyze to Maximize” technique to ensure that their attention issues do not get in the way of their performance.  First, I analyze the trends in answering both right and wrong answers.  In particular, I evaluate when the student’s attention starts to decline, when their concentration starts to lapse.  Based on their individual attention span, I then develop and implement a personalized strategy that maximizes their performance.  This strategy includes knowing when and how to utilize specific focusing techniques.

For students with math anxieties, as well as students with math learning disabilities: I have significant expertise in providing services that will enable students to overcome these challenges.

For young persons with learning struggles, I offer GROUPS: Adolescents with learning differences often share many similarities.  Ironically, one of the most profound things they have in common is the sense of isolation that comes from believing that no one can relate to their struggles.  Additionally, since an adolescent’s peer group is of central importance to them, not feeling as smart as their friends can lead to a compromised self–esteem.  Therefore, attending a process group with other students who have academic struggles offers them the opportunity to:

- Learn that they are not alone with their frustrations.
- Gain self–esteem from the removal of shame.
- Share peer strategies with other group members.
- Build a sense of competency that promotes self–advocacy.
